A few nights ago we were awakened by our dogs barking like crazy. We heard some bumps and sounds but didn't get up to investigate. The next morning we found the lid off a trash can and a pile of Fritos right outside our bedroom door. A raccoon must have paid us a visit in the night! In the winter we move our trash cans to the back porch - the snow gets too deep to get to them otherwise. So this little guy was right outside our bedroom door!
The next night we heard a lot of banging around and sure enough, the little critter came back to finish off the Fritos! I chased him back out into the yard and replaced the trash in the can. A short while later he was back - my husband looked out the bedroom window and saw his face peering in - he was seated on top of the trash can again. We finally got everything secure and went back to bed. I worry about what they find to eat here. Everything is covered with several feet of snow so I guess garbage is their only option - poor things! We've never had them get into our trash cans before - we've secured the lids now so they can't get them off. Hopefully, he won't be back. They're awfully cute but I don't want them in the yard.
